Here at Pixy Natural Skincare we love coconut oil. Why? Because it’s so beneficial for the skin! Saturated fats within the oil means when the oil is applied on to the skin, it keeps it smooth to the touch. Due to the presence of these fats, coconut oil also retains the moisture content of the skin, as the fats eliminate moisture loss through the pores on skin.
It has been known to speed up wound healing, and studies have found it to be effective in increasing hydration and reducing water loss in seriously dry skin.
Coconut oil is full of anti-oxidants, along with lots of other fatty acids that actually help build cells. Using the natural elixir regularly helps build and repair skin, actually slowing down the development of wrinkles and liver spots. The oil helps minimize wrinkles by promoting collagen production and replacement. Collagen is the fibrous protein that connects tissue.
Collagen, a structural protein in the inner layers of skin, is what keeps the skin elastic and smooth. It may breakdown due to the effect of UV rays, pollution, smoking, and physical injuries. Replacement of collagen is necessary to counteract the effects of its breakdown. It has been found that coconut oil has the ability to penetrate deep into the skin. The triglycerides in the oil attract protein molecules, ensuring timely repair of the collagen layer.
Coconut oil also has high quantities of vitamin E; an essential nutrient for healthy skin growth, repair, and the prevention of premature ageing.
We use coconut oil in loads of our products. As mentioned not only is it a good moisturiser but also a great cleanser. Lauric acid, existing in large quantities in coconut oil, is an anti-microbial compound that makes coconut oil a deep and invigorating skin cleanser. Because coconut oil is naturally antibacterial, antifungal, moisturising and, according to research, great for atopic dermatitis, many women swear by its use as a nighttime moisturiser for their face, too.
It is a gentle oil yet a thorough cleanser. It softens the keratin caps and makes exfoliation much easier. The light, spreading texture of coconut oil enables it to seep into the hair follicles and dissolve the hardened sebum, bringing it up to the skin surface. This is good!
Winter is Coming
Because coconut oil is a great moisturiser it’s particularily effective for dry skin. This is something many people suffer from as the temperature drops with the onset of Winter. This is never more so than for lips. Parched dry lips in the Winter is very common. Products with a base of coconut oil are an ideal solution for dry skin.
Adding coconut oil to your skincare routine is a particularly good way of protecting yourself against the damages of bitterly cold winds and dry indoor conditions. The oil is also good for hardened and cracked feet, which may happen due to excessive cold or strenuous work while standing on your feet.
The combination of dry air and the cold, plus frequent hand washing with harsh detergents, strips the hands of their natural oils, leaving them dry and rough.
Our Coconut Hand Cream is full of conditioning coconut oil, nourishing cocoa butter and shea butter and moisturising apricot oil, with beeswax which forms a protective breathable layer over the skin. It suits all skin types and is especially good for dry cracked hands or for people who frequently have their hands in water.
