Cold weather can not only be a real problem for skin it can also help bring on the dreaded cold and flu symptoms. Winter brings an entire new set of challenges to our skin care and health so as the season gets cooler, it’s worth thinking more so about your skin care and health in general so don’t let your skin dry out and suffer cracked lips. Here’s some ideas to keep your skin healthy and you in tip-top condition (and help combat those cold and flu bugs that are going around)!
Moisturising is a Must in the Winter Months
Moisturising is an essential part of our skin treatment, but it’s particularly so in this dry, freezing weather. Find an “ointment” moisturiser that’s oil-based, rather than water-based, as the oil will create a protective layer on the skin that retains more moisture than a cream or lotion
Moisturisers are great against the dehydrating effects of winter. Keeping your skin hydrated is especially important because the dryness and cracking of your skin during the cold months will make it susceptible to infections and outbreaks.
Be sure to choose a product that is specific to your skin type and remember to apply within a few minutes of bathing to trap much-needed water.
As mentioned, Winter time can be harsh on your skin, and the plummeting temperatures, cold winds and drying central-heating can especially take their toll on your lips. Make sure your lips are nourished and moisturised with a good lip balm.
If You Feel That Cold or Flu Coming on Take a Bath
If you feel a cold or flu coming on take a steamy bath or shower. The steam opens your airways, eases congestion, and makes it easier to breathe. And don’t forget to throw in a bath bomb for good measure (the bath not the shower!?!). The only hard part will be coming back out (best to avoid a long bath).
